blah blah blah | 01:11 |
Nomenclature (System of naming)

  • Steps involved in this technique are:
  1. Chain Selection
  2. Numbering
  3. Naming
Nomenclature of Alkanes (Saturated Hydrocarbons)

  1. Select the continuous and longest chain of Carbon atom.

2.If any branch is attached with selected chain then numbering should be started from that side from which the branch is nearest.

3.If we have more than one longest chain , select the chain with maximum branches.

4.If branches are present at equal distance from both sides numbering can be started from both sides.

5.If two branches are attached at equal distance , numbering should be started in alphabetical order.

6.If same branches are appeared at equal distance , numbering should be started from that side from which second branch is nearest.

7.Names of all the branches should be written in alphabetical order with their locater numbers.

8.Name of chain should be written according to Alkanes.

9.Numbers should be separated by commas.

10.Names and numbers should be separated bu dash.
